About Us

Alex VanDongen

Hi I'm Alex. I live in Sandy, UT with my boyfriend, my cat (Eleven), and dog (Sally). I am a Fire Investigator and get to travel all over the country for work. 

I have lived in several different states during my time as an Army Intelligence Officer. I worked with Gina in the restaurant industry during college for about two years. I was a hostess and a server. I have two bachelor degrees, one from the University of Utah and one from Eastern Kentucky University. 

I love food and I love learning about different cultures and what food means to people and how it has shaped people's lives. I love learning about how to prepare food, how to pick ingredients, and how to cook incredible meals without selling your kidney to buy ingredients. I am so excited to explore the world, food, and the people during this podcast experience. 

Gina Steffen

Hi! I am Gina. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City. I currently live there with my husband and two cats, Eenie Meenie and Louisa Mae. My husband and I love to cook, he was a Chef for 10+ years. We try new recipes and love to try different cultures food. 

I worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years. I started as a host and worked my way up through management. I am currently a nurse and loving it. 

I wanted to write a cookbook to help people try new foods from different cultures. I felt growing up there was not much access to different ethnicities and the necessary ingredients. My goal in this podcast and blog is to learn along with you about different ingredients and what we can do with them.
